Summer vacation is a time to relax, explore new places, and enjoy some well-deserved rest. But if you’re a dedicated runner using Trenara, you might be wondering how to balance your training plan with your vacation. The good news is, you can do both! Here’s how to stay active without stressing about your training schedule while you’re away.

  1. Don’t Worry About Taking a Break

First and foremost, it’s perfectly fine to let go of your structured training plan for a week or even two to three weeks while you’re on summer vacation. Your body can benefit from the break (hopefully you'll see your HRV increase), and you’ll come back feeling refreshed and ready to hit the ground running.

  1. Stay Active When You Can

If you have the opportunity to fit in some workouts, go for it! Even if it’s just for half an hour. Any activity is better than none, and it will help you maintain your fitness levels. If you’re doubting what type of workout to do, opt for an endurance run. Remember, during your vacation, it’s more about covering miles than focusing on intensity. Trenara's flexibility allows you to adjust your plan accordingly, by deleting or rescheduling workouts.

  1. Try Other Sports

Summer vacations are also a great time to explore other sports and activities! Swimming, cycling, hiking, or even a casual game of beach volleyball can be fantastic ways to stay active. Plus, these activities can provide a refreshing change from your usual running routine. Don’t forget to check out our Trenara blogs on alternative training methods for more ideas, from alternative training theory to practice.

  1. Pause Your Training Plan

If you prefer not to be reminded by my alter ego of planned or missed sessions while you’re on summer vacation, simply pause your Trenara training plan (via the three dots in the upper right corner). This way, you can fully enjoy your time away without any guilt or pressure. When you’re ready to get back on track, you can easily resume your plan within the app.

  1. Enjoy Your Vacation

Above all, remember that your vacation is a time to relax and recharge. Enjoy the change of scenery, spend time with loved ones, and make the most of your break. When you return, you’ll find that your batteries are replenished, and your passion for running will maybe be even stronger.

Additional Tips

  • Explore New Running Routes: If you’re in a new location, take advantage of the opportunity to explore new routes. Running in a different environment can be a refreshing change and keep you motivated. Use AllTrails or Strava to help you with that.

  • Stay Hydrated and Eat Well: Traveling can sometimes throw off your usual hydration and nutrition routine. Make sure to drink plenty of water and try to maintain a balanced diet to keep your energy levels up.

  • Listen to Your Body: If you feel tired or sore, give yourself permission to rest. It’s important to listen to your body and avoid overtraining, especially when you’re out of your usual routine. Trenara can help you monitor your progress and adjust your training plan as needed - for example via the RPE feedback loop.

Conclusion

Summer vacations are a time for relaxation and enjoyment, and your training should enhance your experience, not detract from it. By following these tips and using Trenara's flexible training plans, you can stay active and maintain your fitness without compromising your vacation. So go ahead, enjoy your break, and return to your training plan with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Happy running and happy summer vacation with Trenara!
